On a triple vinyl album, the label Soundway Records presents 32 selected recordings from East Africa from the 1970s and 80s.
For all fans of African music, a treasure trove of rare and unusual pieces, many of which are only available as vinyl singles appeared. In the tradition of the label's "Special" series (which is successfully dedicated to the highlife and Afrobeat scene of Nigeria and Ghana), there are detailed liner notes as well as lots of artwork reproductions and photos.
Stylistically the compilation is dedicated to the styles Rumba and Benga. The latter was Kenya's contribution to Afropop with its 4 / 4 beat and overlapping electric guitars in the early 70s. The Congolese version of Afro-Cuban rumba came into the country through many bands that settled in Kenya after touring. In addition, there was the influence of many hotel musicians who incorporated rock 'n' roll riffs and West African elements into their music.
Pressed to 3LP & bonus 7" black vinyl.
