This is the first Pulp album since We Love Life in 2001. Yes—the first Pulp album in 24 years. How did that happen?

Well, when we started touring again in 2023, we practiced a new song called “Hymn of the North” during soundchecks, and eventually played it at the end of our second night at Hammersmith Odeon. That seemed to open the floodgates. The rest of the songs on this album came together during the first half of 2024. A couple are revivals of ideas from the last century.

  • One track’s music was written by Richard Hawley.
  • Another was composed by Jason Buckle.
  • The Eno family provides backing vocals on one song.
  • String arrangements were written by Richard Jones and performed by the Elysian Collective.

The album was recorded over three weeks with James Ford in Walthamstow, London, beginning on November 18, 2024. It’s the quickest a Pulp album has ever come together—clearly, it was meant to be.

This is the best we can do.

No AI was involved—just four humans from the North of England, supported by five others from across the British Isles.

Thanks for listening. We hope you enjoy the music.
