The soft brush swish before the first “Chestnuts roasting” in The Christmas Song tells you everything; Cole is right at your elbow. Nat King Cole’s The Christmas Song (7") on 45RPM baby blue vinyl is a handsome little single that earns its slot every December. Notice how he lingers on “to you,” and how the strings lift under the last verse; it’s economy and warmth in two and a half minutes. Cut at 45, the transients feel a touch cleaner, and his baritone locks dead-center with more space around the trio. If you’d rather order online, you can buy Nat King Cole records online with us. File it alongside Bing Crosby, only with a subtler jazz pianist’s phrasing and a lighter rhythmic glide. It’s the side you cue for a late Melbourne tidy or a quiet nightcap when the tree lights are dimmed. Baby blue finish looks sharp, and the classic Capitol badge art really pops in a 7-inch sleeve. Short and sweet, it turns the room festive without fuss.
