By 1983, The Pointer Sisters were seasoned pros. Break Out, their tenth studio album, was the game-changer and made the group household names, continuing to ride the wave caused by the chart-smashing 'I'm So Excited', added here in 12" mix form. It wasn't just their most commercially successful, it was a defining statement of 80s dance and pop. Also featured were the hits 'Jump (For My Love)' and 'Automatic' which explode with synths, hooks and infectious energy and between them, these three tracks alone justify the album's reputation. But it doesn't stop there. 'Neutron Dance' keeps the momentum alive and is one of the most enduring feelgood anthems of the decade, gaining widespread expsoure after being featured in the Eddie Murphy movie Beverly Hills Cop. 'I Need You' also has moments of melodic charm, while 'Dance Electric' and 'Easy Persuasion' tap into a funkier, Prince-like groove, thanks in part to tight drum machine work and irresistible vocals. Break Out is pure 80s fun and a great example at the care free but catchy dance music that found its way to the mainstream back in 1983.
