Between 1972 and 1989, Nigerian bandleader Fela Kuti created a body of work so vast and politically charged it almost defies curation. Yet this double collection manages the impossible, capturing the full sweep of his Afrobeat vision without losing any power. Compiled by his son Femi, the set condenses sprawling half-hour jams into sharp, combustible statements. 'Lady' and 'Water No Get Enemy' shimmer with intricate horn lines and swirling polyrhythms. 'Zombie' remains devastating - it's a satire on military obedience carried by brass that seems to sneer. Elsewhere, 'Coffin for Head of State' and 'I.T.T.' reveal the depth of Fela's defiance with his voice both preacherly and weary. Even in edited form, the urgency never dims; it's revolutionary music that still vibrates with danger.
