Back in 2001, Radiohead’s guitarist Johnny Greenwood told Jazz Times’ George Varga how Miles Davis’ groundbreaking album Bitches Brew (1969) shaped their sound. He admired the album’s rich, chaotic layers—the gritty blend of electric pianos and multiple drummers—that went beyond just trumpet brilliance. This jazz spirit shines through Radiohead’s shift away from traditional instruments and song forms toward bold, fragmented compositions. Now, their intricate rhythms and harmonies get a daring jazz makeover by artists like Jamie Cullum, Yaron Herman, and the Noordpool Orchestra, who famously reimagined Radiohead’s music in their 2012 album Radiohead, A Jazz Symphony.
