Originally released in 1970 through Philips Records, Fôrça Bruta (Brute Force) represents one of the most defining artistic pivots in the career of Jorge Ben. Departing from the lavish orchestral pop production of his late-60s work, Ben joined forces with the legendary rhythm section Trio Mocotó (Fritz Escovão, Nereu Gargalo, and João Parahyba). Together, they forged an organic, groove-heavy sound built around Ben’s percussive acoustic guitar strumming and Trio Mocotó's infectious combination of cuíca, pandeiro, and timbales.
A cornerstone of Samba Rock, MPB (Música Popular Brasileira), Samba-Funk, and Tropicalia-Adjacent Soul, the album effortlessly merges Afro-Brazilian folk polyrhythms with American soul and funk sensibilities.
