When A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular with singer Liesje Sardonius was originally released in 1996, the album was a critical and commercial success. The hit single "2Wicky" has appeared in numerous movies, including I Know What You Did Last Summer, Stealing Beauty and The Interview and during an episode of CSI, giving the band a lot of international exposure.

One of my favorite albums ever!

I've been revisiting some of my favorite bands from the 90's and Hooverphonic was on my mind, so, I went back to their beginnings with "A New Stereophonic Sound Spectacular", and it felt like a breath of fresh air! I'm a huge fan of Trip-Hop and their interpretation of this dreamy, almost another world vibe just sticks with you from the first track until the very end of the album. Liesje Sadonius, although the only album that she was on before leaving the band, she has this angelic voice that is perfectly suited for this genre (same way I feel about Tracey Thorn from EBTG). I'm also obsessed with the album cover with that "Blue Hour" rainy atmosphere.

I've only been collecting vinyl records for about a decade and I had to seek out their blue vinyl version and it lead me to Bondi Records and was able to secure a copy for a really good price! I received it in just about a week and was very impressed with that turnaround time!

Overall, the album to me is perfection and I did enjoy their follow-up albums, "Blue Wonder Power Milk" and "The Magnificent Tree" (also love those album covers that has the blue look to them), but they honestly don't come close to the brilliance of their debut album.
