The Joshua Tree is the fifth studio album by Irish Stadium Rock Stars U2, originally released in 1987 on Island Records. This is by far the creative peak of the band's discography, as the album both pioneered what could be described as ‘arena rock’ as well as taking U2 to those very venues.
The sparse sonic space of the record can be attributed to the production of Brian Eno, who elevates the album to classic material through his restraint and challenge of the band and the genre. Everything that made U2 great is present in spades and shows the creative foundations of the tropes they continue to milk today. Not only is this the quintessential U2 album, it is one of the greatest classic rock albums of all time.
